He has a variety of playing styles embracing various styles of finger picking as well as straight forward rhythm guitar. In England Colin was part of a duo that performed at Johnny Dankworth’s “Stables” Folk venue in support to Steeleye Span in the 70s. He has played as a solo artist and as part of a group of musicians over the past 30 odd years.Susan ParrishSusan Parrish began playing flute at the age of 8 and now includes the penny whistle, the tenor & descant recorder, and guitar in her playing repertoire. She also has an amazing singing voice – described by many “ as soothing as honey” - and has played in several groups over many years. Her singing is quite unique. Rarely are listeners unmoved by the clarity and character of her voice. She works professionally at the Darnum Musical Village where she and husband Colin entertain the tour groups. Susan has delighted audiences everywhere across Gippsland & beyond with her modesty and easy going personality, not to mention an infectious smile! What Makes Us Different?“ I would say that what we do, has been well received largely because of the beautiful singing voice that Susan has, together with the blend of harmonies we have been able to create in our choice of songs. We like to stress that we are not a ‘rock n roll’ band. We play dinner/concert style music with a mix of well known up-tempo Irish songs and ballads.” Colin Parrish. When you hear Susan singing you can’t help but take notice. It is not a classical voice; nor a screechy pop diva’s voice. It is quite unique. Calming; mellow, and “as smooth as honey”, as once described by a member of an audience. She has been compared to the likes of Judith Durham and Nana Mouskouri, but her voice bears its own distinctive quality. A lady in the audience at The Darnum Musical Village came up to her at the end of a performance and said; “I have been classically trained in South Africa, but you have the most beautiful voice that I have ever heard.” Singing is part of Susan’s life. She expresses her emotions through it. It is a gift that she was once told had to be shared with others. Raising a family of four children made it difficult, until recently, for her to sing at venues that could showcase that gift. With husband Colin, she has become more settled in singing a style of music described as ‘easy listening’. But essentially, it is a style of music that audiences from across the spectrum find soothing; calming. In recent years:Previously:VP celebrations at the Morwell RSL; Morning Melodies at the Dandenong RSL; Senior Citizen appearances at Traralgon, Newborough, Leongatha, Warragul, Drouin & Narre Warren, various Folk Club appearances, as well as providing entertainment at numerous aged care and day care facilities. They have also provided New Year’s Eve at The Elizabethan Reception Centre in Warragul for the previous two years. Last Year “Christmas in July at the Warragul Bowling Club and The Cranbourne Aged Care Centre, as well as functions for the Baw Baw Shire.More recently in October last year, they provided the entertainment at The Victorian Tidy Towns Presentation Awards at the Moe RSL Function center, and the exclusive Barn On Jackson’s Café/Bar at Jindivik, where they have also played New Years Eve. |

Our 40 minute session drew some much appreciated comments. Thanks to Terry Cupples and Leigh Beechaz for their contribution, and Susan's singing and dexterity on the flute and tenor recorder were a hi-light for the audience. We are looking forward to playing at the festival next year as part of the Saturday program. |
